Going wrong with Depeche Mode

March 1, 2009

Well, I fucking love Depeche Mode, you should know that. I’m sure anyone who knows me, knows that. The electro masters have a new song “Wrong”, a real top of their game come back single, from a new CD “Sounds of The Universe” released on Hitler’s birthday, April 20. If you know Mode you know that date is not a coincidence, their fascist flirtations are numerous….

Wrong has a great clip. Going backwards, tied up, gagged and masked. Metaphor for the masses? Heading for the crash. Directed by Patrick Daughters.

Lyrics?

“I was born with the wrong sign
In the wrong house
With the wrong ascendancy
I took the wrong road
That led to the wrong tendencies
I was in the wrong place at the wrong time
For the wrong reason and the wrong rhyme
On the wrong day of the wrong week
I used the wrong method with the wrong technique”

“I was marching to the wrong drum
With the wrong scum
Pissing out the wrong energy
Using all the wrong lines
And the wrong signs
With the wrong intensity
I was on the wrong page of the wrong book
With the wrong rendition of the wrong hook
Made the wrong move, every wrong night
With the wrong tune played till it sounded right, yeah

Wrong, Too Long”

– Martin L. Gore, Poet

I hung out with them in Sydney a couple nights during their first Aussie tour in 1990. I’ll write about our ‘wrong’ adventures, sometime…

Its a pretty cool clip isn’t it.

Check out the Fever Ray clips…

Hey, break a leg and good luck over weekend in ‘Bama…

    Grizzly xx

  3. Thank you, Mr. Smith, for the magical ‘Wrong’ link. The driver of the car looks like one of the ghouls in Herk Harvey’s classic ‘Carnival of Souls’.

Yes Mark. The mask reminded me of one of your early films.

I like the look of this clip. Its similar to the two Fever Ray clips. This ‘post modern Gothic’ look is all the rage at present.
