Patrick Buchanan’s Thesis on WW2

November 20, 2008

I called Winston Churchill a traitor, below, and I thought I might clarify my thoughts a little better. I have been reading Patrick Buchanan’s book “Churchill, Hitler, and “The Unnecessary War”: How Britain Lost Its Empire and the West Lost the World”.

I am not a Pat Buchanan fan normally, as he is too much of an old school Republican fascist for me, but his new book makes some sentient points. While the tome is a little laboured in parts, Buchanan’s main thesis is sound; that disastrous English leaders like Churchill completely ruined the British Empire by dragging the West into two civil wars, that it could have avoided, i.e., WW1 and 2. That premise is indeed true. England could easily have allied with Germany, the poor man of Europe, at the start of the 20th century, and ended any conflicts before they began. A united central Europe could have then squashed Lenin as soon as he appeared, or rid the world of Stalin in the 30’s, thus ending any Cold War before it began!

Here is a blurb on the book:

Were World Wars I and II—which can now be seen as a thirty-year paroxysm of slaughter and destruction—inevitable? Were they necessary wars? Were the bloodiest and most devastating conflicts ever suffered by mankind fated by forces beyond men’s control? Or were they products of calamitous failures of judgment? In this monumental and provocative history, Patrick Buchanan makes the case that, if not for the blunders of British statesmen—Winston Churchill first among them—the horrors of two world wars and the Holocaust might have been avoided and the British Empire might never have collapsed into ruins. Half a century of murderous oppression of scores of millions under the iron boot of Communist tyranny might never have happened, and Europe’s central role in world affairs might have been sustained for many generations.

Among the British and Churchillian blunders were:

• The secret decision of a tiny cabal in the inner Cabinet in 1906 to take Britain straight to war against Germany, should she invade France
• The vengeful Treaty of Versailles that muti- lated Germany, leaving her bitter, betrayed, and receptive to the appeal of Adolf Hitler
• Britain’s capitulation, at Churchill’s urging, to American pressure to sever the Anglo- Japanese alliance, insulting and isolating Japan, pushing her onto the path of militarism and conquest
• The 1935 sanctions that drove Italy straight into the Axis with Hitler
• The greatest blunder in British history: the unsolicited war guarantee to Poland of March 1939—that guaranteed the Second World War
• Churchill’s astonishing blindness to Stalin’s true ambitions.

Its a complex issue, but it would seem hard to deny that British hubris in the 20th century has practically destroyed England’s standing in the world, and apropos Western Civilisation itself.

Well, almost! Its never too late, like the Laibach song goes, “Let’s go!”.

I have always seen 20th century fascism as primarily a bulwark against a worse form of oppression – Communism – manifested in its purist form under Stalin and Mao. I believe you have to understand that the likes of Mussolini, Franco and Hitler and co., could see the winds of history and built their own third path national revolutions to fight this Left ideology. An ideology whose manifestations have been so openly disastrous. Its worth considering that Hitler launched the first battle of the Cold War with Barbarossa, taking a bloody fight to the Reds. Respected historian Ernst Nolte looks upon Hitler’s regime favourably for this aspect of their foreign policy.

So, I do believe to some extent Churchill helped sell the British Empire down the toilet, and for that I think him a traitor. While England still sails in a lesser sea, as one of Western Capitalism’s leading bastions, its role has certainly diminished. This I believe is unfortunate given its glorious history before WW1, a history that forged the very nation we all live in here in Australia!

This raises a contemporary salient question, will our and the next generation sell the West down the same dunny this century, as England did her domain in the last?

“Yes”, I’d say, looking at the shoddy non historical, non aggressive and non political generations of today! The weak apathetic Westerner is being breed as Legion in the 21st century Western World. We need to again live and enjoy ideologies of superiority, elitism and domination in the West. But there is hope, maybe one day the young people of the world will awake toward a real ‘new dawn’… and not some Obamaniac’s bullshit dream of a continued blind Capitalist hegemony, that is going nowhere…

Check out the Buchanan book if your interested, there’s life in the ‘old salty old dog’ paleoconservative yet!

  1. I’m sure it would have made for a magnificently demented world were England to have ‘allied’ with Nazi Germany and joined Hitler in his quest to murder every last Jew on the planet. Yes indeed, what a magnificent England that would have been! A Europe fully engaged in slaughtering every last non-superman white person!

You know, that’s the thing about evil – it’s easily misjudged. It’s very slippery. But when you finally see it, you attack it as Churchill did.

Buchanan seems to me to be a rabid racist and listening to his perspective on the World wars strikes me as exceedingly dangerous.

I think Churchill shoved a stick up Germany’s ass and I think we all owe the fellow some measure of thanks for doing so.

On behalf of 6,000,000 Jews and a thousands of others I offer a heartfelt ‘Fuck you’ to Mr. Buchanan.

And one last question: Is this a white supremacist blog? Just asking.

    Hi Alessandro,

    Thank you for your comment.

I think Buchanan is talking geo-politics, and looking at the theoretical advantages of no war with Britain and Germany in 1914 and 1939.

Whether the Jewish holocaust would have occurred without WW2 is debatable, is it not? Most Historians agree the event didn’t fully esculate until after Pearl Harbour and the Wannsee Conference round 41/42?

I’m sure given different circumstances, like a Nazi/British pact in ‘39, a clause for British support could have been added giving Palestine to the Jews? With details of a peaceful humane exodus for German Jews, as part of the deal? I am not suggesting the British join anti-semitic Germany. Indeed, I suggest such a pact could have saved the Jews of Europe, instead of a declaration of war over Poland, sealing the doom of many.

I could even see the Nazi’s supporting a state of Israel, in these circumstances of a British/ Nazi pact? Hitler was a secret Anglophile and admirer of the British Empire, it has been reported by many…

Remember, the Nazi’s did actually encourage Jewish immigration to Palestine, early on, in the regime.

Its a tricky question. I enjoy speculative history…but its hard to guess how things might have been, who knows?

Personally, as someone who is interested in fascism and the Nazi period, I find the anti-semitic policies of the Nazi’s tiresome. Jewish people are clearly a vital and dynamic part of European culture. Why Hitler and the Nazi’s never embraced and assimilated the Jews, their scientists, philosophers and culture, I will never fully understand? There are many theories on this…

It must be remembered also that Mussolini’s Fascist’s had many Jewish members. Benito M. only went along with Hitler’s racial ideas, as Germany’s might became apparent, in the late 30’s…

Believe it or not, WW2 is about more than just the Jewish holocaust. I thought it was about the nature, direction and destiny of Western culture itself? Deciding, as it did, who would rule the world since, and for how long.

I disagree with the French Nationalist Jean Marie Le Pen who calls the holocaust a mere foot note to WW2, but I do think the events and significance of the Shoah have been over played and misused by various interests, and parties. See Norman Finkelstein, Chomsky, etc.

Is this blog a ‘white supremacist’ blog. No, sorry to disappoint. But, if you are a white supremacist you can post here, as long as you use your name, and be polite. We support freedom of speech at Idea Fix.

Idea Fix is a film, politics and culture blog by an Australian filmmaker, writer and ‘free spirit’ i.e I, Richard Wolstencroft.

Amongst other things, it is interested in formulating and discussing a non racist conception of fascism, something that I have called Transcendental Fascism. The exact tenets and philosophy of which are in constant development here at Idea Fix, and in other texts. But, you can glean some ideas of T.F from the writings to be found around this blog, I’m sure.

    Best Regards

    Richard Wolstencroft
